About KWI Clutching

Who we are

Clutching isall we do

We're a small shop in Godley, Illinois building CVT clutch kits and billet clutches for people who actually ride hard. Every kit we sell has been through our own machines first.

Our story

Built to fix what the factory got wrong.

KWI Clutching started in a two-car garage. When owner Kris got his hands on the new Can-Am X3, he saw flaws that years of snowmobile drag racing and clutch work told him he could fix. So he got to work.

Once it was on his own machine, he knew he had something. He went looking for racers to put it through its paces, and Sean Cook of Cook Racing took him up on it. Alignment issues gone, longer belt life, more power to the ground. Word spread fast, and KWI was born.

In 2018 we set out to prove it. We took the Float Mod to the Baja 1000 — one of the toughest races in the Americas — and came away with a first place finish and zero belt issues. Point made.

2018 — Baja 1000

First place finish. Zero belt issues. Battle tested and proven.

Those early years aren't much different from today. Products built to solve real problems and put more power to the ground, all designed, built, and tested by Kris — who has more R&D time in CVT clutches than anyone in the industry.

How a kit gets made

Battle Tested & Proven

From first data log to final release, every product goes through its paces with racers and riders across every kind of terrain. Real-world miles first, launch second.

01

Learn the machine

When a new machine comes out, we get to know it. We drive it, data log it, and test it until we know exactly what the factory clutching does and where it falls short.

02

Design the fix

We design solutions to the problems we found — weights, springs, cam arms, or a whole new billet clutch if that's what it takes.

03

Test it ourselves

Everything goes on our own machines first. Cut it, run it, cut it again, until the curve holds where the engine makes power.

04

Put real miles on it

Then it goes out to select racers and riders who can put real miles on it. What comes back is what refines and perfects the product.

05

Release it

Once it's battle tested and proven, it goes out to the public. Not a day before.
