This product requires you to send your Primary & Secondary to KWI for installation, as it needs to be performed in the shop.

Overview

The PDrive Float system is ideal for any rider who wants smoother shifting, longer belt life, improved throttle response, and more reliable performance from their Can-Am’s CVT system. Whether you’re crawling over rocks, racing dunes, slinging mud, or cruising trails, this package is engineered to fix core clutching issues at their root—offering long-term performance, reliability, and tuning flexibility.

Key Features

  • Full Clutch Inspection: Every PDrive Float begins with a complete inspection and diagnostic of both primary and secondary clutches before any modifications are performed. If any worn or damaged components or wearable parts are found, we’ll email you a full estimate for approval before continuing.
  • Precision-Machined Sheaves: Both primary and secondary sheaves are resurfaced and trued to ensure flatness and optimal belt contact, improving engagement, consistency, and belt life.
  • Floated Secondary Clutch: Secondary clutch is machined to float, allowing it to self-align with the primary clutch throughout operation. This corrects misalignment that causes hard shifting and secondary spin at idle, while reducing belt heat and wear.
  • BRP OEM Rollers Included: Due to rapid wear, all PDrive Float Mods now include a fresh set of BRP OEM primary rollers. These rollers should be inspected after every ride and replaced as soon as they show side-to-side play or visible wear. This is a wearable OEM item and MUST be checked and changed regularly to ensure proper performance of your clutching system.
  • Enhanced CVT Performance: The Float system restore consistent shifting, improve backshifting, reduce belt temps, and improve power transfer to the wheels.

The KWI PDrive Float is a precision-engineered upgrade designed to correct critical clutch alignment issues in PDrive-equipped Can-Am machines. When the clutch system is misaligned, it causes the belt to ride unevenly on two of the four sheaves instead of being centered, which leads to the secondary clutch spinning in park or neutral, hard shifting, excessive belt wear, and eventually premature clutch and belt failure.

In addition to alignment problems, PDrive primary clutches have internal components that swell under heat, which can cause the primary to remain engaged on the belt even at idle. This creates the same symptoms as a misaligned secondary—spinning in park, difficulty shifting, and belt drag. Furthermore, PDrive primary rollers are known to wear quickly, and as they degrade, they allow the governor cup to shift, making it so the clutch can’t open all the way like it should, which makes the problem even worse.

At KWI, every Float Mod starts with a complete inspection and evaluation of your clutch system. We check for wear on the primary and secondary clutches and identify any damage. If any worn or damaged components are found, or any wearable parts need replacing we will provide you with a cost estimate for approval before any modifications or repairs are performed. This ensures your clutch system is in good working condition before the Float Mod is installed.

Once evaluated, all sheaves are trued and refinished to restore flatness and consistency, ensuring optimal belt contact and performance.  This allows the secondary clutch to “float” on the shaft, letting it automatically self-align with the primary clutch as the belt wears and the system shifts. This floating action corrects the factory alignment flaw that causes hard shifting and a spinning secondary at idle. It also reduces belt stress, heat, and failure—while increasing power delivery to the wheels. By keeping the belt more centered and evenly distributed across all four sheaves, it improves overall clutch performance and reliability.

All PDrive Float Packages now include a fresh set of OEM BRP Primary Rollers. These are standard wearable replacement parts and still require regular changing and maintenance. PDrive rollers are known to wear quickly—sometimes within just a few rides—so we recommend inspecting them after every ride and replacing them if there is any side-to-side play or visible wear. If rollers are not maintained, the primary may stick engaged again and cause hard shifting or idle engagement.
