PDrive Float Mod
The KWI PDrive Float is a precision-engineered upgrade designed to correct critical clutch alignment issues and known flaws in PDrive-equipped Can-Am machines. When a clutch is misaligned, it forces the belt to ride on one sheave instead of being centered, resulting in hard shifting, excessive belt wear, secondary clutch spin at idle, and ultimately, premature clutch and belt failure.
At KWI, every Float Mod starts with a complete inspection and evaluation of your clutch system. We check for wear on the primary and secondary clutches, confirm proper taper engagement, and identify any damage. Once evaluated, the sheaves are trued and refinished to restore flatness and consistency, ensuring optimal belt contact and performance.
We then machine the secondary clutch to allow it to “float” on the shaft, letting it automatically self-align with the primary clutch as the belt wears and the clutch system cycles through shifting. This floating action solves the factory alignment flaw that leads to hard shifting and idle clutch spin.
All PDrive Float Packages also include the PD Update, which addresses a major issue with PDrive primaries sticking engaged. This condition causes the machine to lurch or remain engaged at idle. The PD Update replaces the primary spring support and stop sleeve, allowing the primary to fully disengage as designed. Combined with the Float Mod, this delivers a complete CVT system fix—solving both alignment and primary engagement problems in one upgrade.
