Why Upgrade to the PDrive Float?

The stock clutch system locks the secondary in place, preventing it from self-adjusting as belt wear changes. This causes misalignment, premature belt wear, and power loss, leading to hard shifting and a secondary clutch that spins at idle. Additionally, PDrive primaries have a known sticking issue, which can cause the primary clutch to remain engaged on the belt, leading to unwanted vehicle engagement at idle and shifting problems.


Important Maintenance Note

PDrive primaries require ongoing maintenance, even after the PD Update. Several wear components must be monitored regularly to prevent shifting and engagement issues:

✔ Primary Rollers – These wear at unpredictable rates, anywhere from 20 miles to 1000 miles, and should be inspected and replaced any time the clutch is serviced.

Governor Cup – If the edges aren’t perfectly flat, it will cause secondary clutch spin at idle, making shifting difficult.

Primary Bearing – Susceptible to rust and seal failure if not properly maintained.

Governor Cup Rollers – Need to be blown off after each ride to prevent rust buildup that can cause shifting and engagement issues.

Any of these components wearing prematurely or being neglected will cause the primary clutch to get stuck engaged, leading to secondary spin at idle and hard shifting. Proper maintenance is critical to ensuring smooth operation and long-term reliability.
