"Went to Moab and did rock crawling. Didn't smoke a belt or anything."

Great customer service, easily answered all my questions to where I understood what was going on. Went to Moab and did rock crawling — I cannot believe how well it worked. Had no clue how bad my previous clutches were. Thanks again KWI.

"BEST upgrade I ever did, and I spent over $15K of upgrades."

This is the best company I have ever dealt with. They are pro-active and follow up with all text, call or email. I bought the floating clutch kit, and it is worth every penny and then some. I wish I would have bought this kit as soon as I bought the machine.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before ordering.

What is "clutch alignment" and why does it matter?

Clutch alignment refers to the primary and secondary clutches being perfectly parallel and correctly offset from each other. When aligned, the belt runs centered on both clutches, which means efficient power transfer and even belt wear. When misaligned — which is common from the factory — the belt rides uneven, generates heat, wears the belt edges, and robs power. The Float Mod fixes this by letting the secondary self-align to the primary.

How much horsepower will I gain from KWI clutching?

Wheel horsepower gains vary by machine and starting condition, but 5–15 wheel horsepower on stock machines is typical. The gains come from three sources: (1) improved belt-to-sheave contact from resurfacing and floating, (2) better power delivery from properly calibrated clutch kits, and (3) reduced friction losses in the CVT system. Tuned and modified machines see larger gains because the clutches are properly matched to the tune.

What is a "spinning secondary at idle" and why does it happen?

This is when your secondary clutch spins at idle — you can see the belt rotating and hear the belt hum — even when the machine is in neutral. It's caused by drag on the belt from a misaligned or over-engaged primary clutch. On PDrive machines, primary internals can swell under heat and stick engaged. The Float Mod, combined with our PDrive internal replacements, addresses this at the root.

What causes hard shifting in a Can-Am UTV?

Hard shifting is almost always caused by clutch misalignment or worn internals. On Can-Am machines, the secondary clutch is locked in place from the factory, which causes it to fight the primary during shift-out. The KWI Float Mod fixes this by machining the secondary to "float" and self-align, eliminating the resistance that causes hard shifting.

Is the Float Mod reversible?

The Float Mod modifies the secondary sheave, so returning to fully stock would require replacing the fixed inner sheave. For most owners this isn't a concern — once you experience the smoother engagement and better belt life, there's no reason to go back. Machines with the Float Mod actually tend to hold or increase resale value in the enthusiast market.

Does installing KWI products void my Can-Am (BRP), Polaris, or Kawasaki warranty?

No. KWI Float Mods, clutch kits, and other modifications do not void your OEM warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects consumers from having their warranty voided by aftermarket parts unless the manufacturer can prove the aftermarket part caused a specific failure. If you have concerns, contact us before ordering and we can walk through specifics.

How often should I inspect my clutches?

For Can-Am machines: inspect after every hard ride, and remove/clean/lubricate the secondary shaft splines with moly grease every 500 miles. Primary rollers should be inspected for side-to-side play and replaced if wear is visible. Regular clutch maintenance is one of the biggest factors in belt and clutch life.

Can I install KWI products myself?

Most KWI products are DIY-friendly. Send-in services (Float Mod, sheave resurfacing) require shipping your clutches to us, but the reinstall is easy — we include a QR Code that will lead you to written instructions and/or YouTube install video with every order. Clutch kits, helixes, and springs typically install in 30–60 minutes with basic tools. The most common tool needed is a primary clutch puller for removing your primary clutch.

What is the KWI Float Mod?

The KWI Float Mod is our proprietary CVT clutch modification that solves multiple issues with the Can-Am clutch system — including hard shifting, belt failures, and performance loss. Specifically, it addresses factory belt misalignment, worn parts, and stuck primary clutches.

We machine all four sheaves and the secondary clutch to "float" on the shaft, allowing it to self-align with the primary during operation. We also replace the secondary rollers, and on PDrive clutches, we replace the primary rollers — which wear quickly — along with internal parts that swell under heat and cause the clutch to stick open.

The result: smoother shifting, lower belt temperatures, dramatically longer belt life, and better power transfer to the wheels.

Do you offer round-trip shipping for send-in services like the Float Mod?

No. not at this time. That is something we are looking into.

How do I know if I have a PDrive or QRS clutch?

Model year is the easiest indicator. 2021 and newer Can-Am X3 turbo models came with the PDrive clutch. 2017–2021 X3s came with the QRS. Up to 2025 Defender, Commander, and Maverick models use the QRS. If you're unsure, remove your belt box cover and look at the primary clutch — PDrive has a 3 cam arms; QRS is a 6 arm.

How do I know which clutch kit or Float Mod is right for my machine?

Every KWI product page includes a "Verify Fitment" tool that shows exactly which machines the product works with. If you're still not sure, our team can help — reach out through the website chat, email, or phone and tell us your machine's year, make, model, and any modifications (tune, turbo, tire size). We'll point you to the right product.

How does the send-in process work?

The process is: Order online → Complete our Clutch Ship-In booking form wh ice will be emailed to you (Check Spam if you don't see it)→ Pack and ship your clutches to us → We inspect and build your clutches → We ship them back → You install →Verify RPM and ride. Most send-in orders complete 7-10 business days in house.

How long is the turnaround for send-in services?

In-house turnaround is 7–10 business days for most send-in services (Float Mod, sheave resurfacing, etc.). Add shipping time both ways on top of that.

What do I need to include when I send my clutches in?

Print out your order confirmation and include it in the box. Wrap each clutch separately in bubble wrap or thick paper — never use packing peanuts, as they can damage clutch components in transit. Pack in a strong, double-walled box.

What if my clutches need parts replaced beyond the Float Mod?

Every clutch we receive gets a full inspection before any work is started. If we find anything that needs attention — damaged sheaves, bad bearings, etc. — we email you a detailed estimate for approval before performing any additional work. You always sign off on cost before we proceed.

What is a clutch kit and why do I need one?

A clutch kit is a calibrated set of weights, springs, and often a helix that tunes your CVT clutch system to your specific machine (horsepower, tire size, terrain, altitude). Even stock machines benefit from a clutch kit because factory calibrations are set for average conditions — a properly tuned kit ensures your motor isn't wasting energy in the clutch system and more power makes it to the ground.

What's the difference between the PDrive Float Mod and the QRS Float Mod?

The difference is which clutch system your machine came with from Can-Am. PDrive clutches are found on 2021+ Can-Am X3 turbo models Defender DH11. QRS clutches are on 2017–2021 X3s and on Select Defender/Commander/Maverick models. The Float Mod modification is similar in concept for both, but the specific parts, machining, and packages are tailored to each clutch system.

Will KWI products fit my Can-Am with an aftermarket transmission seal guard?

No. Any transmission seal guard (also called a seal saver) is physically incompatible with the KWI Float Mod because the seal guard occupies the exact space the secondary clutch needs to "float." You will need to remove your seal guard before installing the Float Mod.

Can I combine multiple products in one order?

Yes. If you're ordering multiple products (Float Mod + clutch kit + belt + tools, for example), add everything to your cart before checking out. Shipping is calculated based on the total order.

Can I return or exchange a KWI product?

Our return and exchange policy can be found here.

Do KWI products work with tuned, supercharged or turbo boosted machines?

Yes. All KWI Float Mods, clutch kits, and complete clutch systems work with tuned, supercharged and turbo boosted builds. Our clutch kits are specifically calibrated for your horsepower level, so when you order, tell us your tune and modifications so we can build for your exact setup.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. KWI Clutching offers Affirm financing and Shop Pay on qualifying orders, giving you the option to pay over time in monthly installments. Financing terms are shown on each product page and at checkout.

Do you provide installation instructions and videos?

Yes. Every KWI product comes with written installation instructions. For most Float Mod and clutch kit installs, we also have YouTube video walkthroughs that show the process step-by-step. Links to videos are provided with your order and on the KWI installs page.

Do you sell just parts, or only complete services?

Both. KWI sells complete send-in services (Float Mod, sheave resurfacing) AND individual parts (clutch kits, springs, weights, helixes, rollers, belts, tools). If you're a DIY installer or shop, we have everything you need. If you'd rather have us do the work, our send-in services handle it start to finish.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, KWI ships worldwide. International shipping rates and customs duties are calculated at checkout. For send-in services, international customers are responsible for shipping their clutches to our Godley, Illinois facility. Contact us before ordering if you have questions about international send-ins.

Does KWI work with aftermarket clutch components from other companies?

Our parts are compatible with components from other manufacturers, but we can't guarantee performance when mixing brands. For the best results, we recommend sticking with one company's components throughout your clutch system.

What is a CVT clutch and how does it work?

CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission. Instead of fixed gears, a CVT uses two variable-diameter pulleys (called clutches) connected by a belt. The primary clutch is on the engine crankshaft; the secondary clutch is on the transmission input shaft. As the engine speeds up, weights inside the primary force it to close, which pushes the belt outward — like shifting to a higher gear. Meanwhile, the secondary opens up to feed belt tension. This constant, smooth ratio change is what makes CVT systems so responsive.

What is the DX3 Conversion?

The DX3 Conversion is a hardware upgrade for Defender and Commander owners with the QRS clutch. Your machine came from the factory with a weaker primary outer half, spring support, and governor cup than the X3 version — meaning they can't handle our AO-RC clutch kit. The DX3 Conversion replaces those three parts with X3-grade versions, which unlocks the full KWI upgrade path for your machine.

What is the Groovix helix?

The Groovix is KWI's patented cooling helix, machined from aircraft-grade aluminum billet. Its unique rib and fan design draws air into the center of the secondary clutch, cooling the underside of the belt and sheaves. The result is significantly lower belt temperatures and longer belt life. The Groovix is included in all "Pro" tier Float Mods and can be purchased separately as an upgrade.

What is the KWI warranty?

Our warranty policy can be found here.

What machines does KWI support?

KWI supports Can-Am (X3, Defender, Commander), Polaris (RZR XP, Pro R, Pro S, Turbo R, Turbo S, XP1000, Xpedition, Ranger), Kawasaki (Teryx, KRX, H2, Ridge), and Speed UTV. Fitment on each product page shows exactly which models are supported.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay (including installments), Affirm financing, and PayPal.

What tools do I need to install KWI products?

At minimum: a primary clutch puller (specific to your machine — we sell them), a torque wrench, sockets, a belt removal tool, and clean workspace. For more complex installs, additional tools may be needed. Each product page lists required tools for your specific vehicle (SPEED UTV, RZR, etc), for example our V2 Complete Tool Kit includes everything you need for most Can-Am installs.

Why do UTVs burn belts?

Belts burn for four main reasons: (1) clutch misalignment causing the belt to ride unevenly, (2) excessive heat from clutch friction, (3) worn or damaged sheave surfaces, and (4) poor calibration for your specific machine setup. The KWI Float Mod fixes reasons 1–3 by aligning and resurfacing the clutches, and our clutch kits fix #4 by calibrating your clutches for your exact machine.

Product Info

The KWI QRS Float is the definitive solution for correcting the factory alignment flaws built into the Can-Am X3 CVT system. Hard shifting, a secondary clutch spinning at idle, and chronic belt failures aren't wear issues — they're the result of a misaligned clutch system that causes the belt to ride unevenly across the sheaves, generating excessive heat, accelerating belt wear, and robbing performance with every ride.

The QRS Float corrects this at the source. The secondary clutch is precision-machined to float on the shaft, allowing it to self-align with the primary under all load conditions. Every package begins with a full clutch inspection before any modifications are performed — all four sheaves are machined and trued to eliminate factory casting imperfections and restore optimal belt contact, and KWI lifetime warranty secondary rollers are installed on every tier.

Choose the package that matches your riding style and performance goals:

Float — Full clutch inspection, all 4 sheaves machined and trued, KWI lifetime warranty secondary rollers, and floated secondary machining. The foundation of the QRS Float system — cleaner belt alignment, reduced side-load, and dramatically improved belt life.

Float+ — Everything in the Float, plus the AO Clutch Kit for improved RPM control, stronger acceleration, and more consistent power delivery across every terrain.

Float ProEverything in the Float+, plus the DR3 Groovix Helix for aggressive backshifting, superior belt grip, and active cooling performance under hard riding conditions.

Pro Aggressive — Everything in the Float Pro, plus the Blue/Pink Aggressive Secondary Spring for maximum belt grip, sharper clutch response, and performance tuned for riders pushing the hardest.

Important: This product requires you to send your Primary and Secondary clutches to KWI for installation. This service must be performed in our shop to ensure proper fitment and performance.
