The Kawasaki H2 Clutch System You Deserved From Day One

When Kawasaki announced the H2, we were already in the shop. Before the machine ever hit the showroom floor, KWI Clutching was designing, prototyping, and testing clutch components built specifically to transform the performance and reliability of the Kawasaki H2 CVT clutching system. That's not marketing — that's simply how we operate.

We Saw the Problems Before Anyone Else Did

During early development, our engineers identified a series of issues in the Kawasaki H2 clutch system that were going to cause problems for owners. Shortly after we flagged them internally, Kawasaki issued a stop-ride notice for all H2 machines. We weren't surprised, as we were already working on the kawasaki h2 performance upgrades and reliability .

What did we do? We kept cooking.

Developing a Better Kawasaki H2 Clutch System

While other aftermarket brands rushed products to market with "fixes" that created new problems, KWI stayed the course — designing, testing, tweaking, then doing it again. We weren't trying to be first. We weren't chasing volume. We were building the best Kawasaki H2 clutch system that had ever been made, period.

Our foundation wasn't nothing. After multiple years of R&D developing a clutch system for the Speed UTV platform, we had a deep understanding of CVT dynamics that most companies never reach. But we weren't going to take that system and bolt it onto the H2 and call it a day. The H2 has completely different airflow, different gearing, and a completely different ride character. It deserved its own solution — one built from the ground up with that experience behind it.

King of Hammers 2026 Testing: Breaking Things on Purpose

Our first major proving ground was King of Hammers 2026. We hauled early Fusion H2 prototypes out to the dry lake bed and set out to destroy them. We wanted failures. We wanted data. We wanted to push these clutch components past their limits so we'd know exactly where those limits were.

After days of hard running, accumulated miles, and engineers arguing over telemetry, we had what we needed — and then some. Our time at KOH was wrapping up when we decided to bring in an outside perspective. Someone who knows the Kawasaki H2 better than anyone outside the factory walls.

We called Reid Nordin.

"Hey Reid, we have something we want you to try. Can you sneak away from the Rugged Radios booth for a bit?" Reid took three laps in our machine. The first, he was measuring it — stopping, going, pushing into corners. The second, he opened it up. The third, he just drove it like he owned it.

When he climbed out for the last time, he said: "Guys, this is what the H2 should have been. This is it. I don't even want to drive mine anymore — let me know when I can get this system."

Desert Racing Validation with Stone Cold Steve Austin

From the lake bed to the Nevada desert. With Stone Cold Steve Austin finishing his Kawasaki H2 race build, we headed out with Steve and his pre-runner to gather race-condition data and push the system further and harder than ever before.

When our engineer Kris returned from the desert, the changes needed were clear. He went straight to work refining the Fusion H2 system. There was just one problem: Steve's race car wasn't ready in time for another round of testing before race day.

Kris went to the Prospector 250 with no data from the finished race car. Just years of CVT experience and a system he believed in. Steve took 1st in class and 5th overall.

We were close. But we still had work to do.

Beta Testing Across Multiple Riding Conditions

Rocks, Dunes, and Real-World Riders

We needed the Fusion H2 system on more machines, in more terrain, with more riding styles. We sent a package to Steven Cornell of Cornell Customs to put it through the rocks. What we discovered there became one of the most significant performance advantages of the Fusion H2 secondary: by running different belt sizes, you can effectively change the gear ratio of your Kawasaki H2 without ever touching the gears.

Steve's results said it best: "We were able to get 15% lower gearing and still run 100 mph. It's so adjustable — we were able to set it up for crawling with very low belt engagement right off idle." He proved that out literally, crawling a 25% grade at 1–2 mph and then hitting 100+ mph on the open flats. Find more about why do UTV belts keep breaking?

Reid Nordin also received a beta package for his personal H2. After 500 miles on the system, here's what he had to say:

"The power feeling was very noticeable. My first words after wiping the smile off my face were 'this feels like it gained 100 HP.' The clutch engagement is super smooth, and there's no lag in traction and engagement when getting out of the throttle and instantly back in it. The best never rest — and I'm thankful they've been so awesome to work with."

The Fusion H2 Helix Cover: Innovation in the Details

Why the Fusion H2 Stands Apart

There was one final engineering challenge. The stock Kawasaki H2 CVT cover didn't provide enough clearance for the Fusion secondary. A helix cover spacer was necessary — but every existing option on the market felt like an afterthought.

So we designed our own.

The KWI Fusion H2 Helix Cover attaches to the CVT housing with magnets, making removal effortless and keeping the clutch accessible without a fight. It also opens the door for future accessories and upgrades — because when you build something right, you build it to grow.
